A golden rule of mine when it comes to making sure you have a water garden or pond that will allow you maximum enjoyment with minimum hassle and lowest ongoing cost is to always buy good branded equipment that's been tried and tested over many years in real pond situations.

 A pond is an extremely harsh and testing environment and not all equipment sold is up to the task. It's also a big investment.

  • An UVC that controls green algae and murky pond water. Fish ponds that are green and murky don't necessarily bother the pond fish... they do however bother the pond keeper. An ultra violet light (UVC) clarifies fish pond water making it crystal clear. However correct sizing for a pond UV Clarifier is essential. It's normally a good idea to double the capacity that is theoretically required because each fish pond is different making a strictly correct choice very difficult.
  • Plants to help the biological balance and add to the beauty of the water garden. There are 6 major groups of water plants with the most important being oxygenators. There is a very wide variety of other aquatic plants that suit different water depths. Water lilies for example prefer deeper water whilst other pond plant prefer to live in shallow pond water (6 inches or less) or even bog or marshy type environments.
